A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
