Arne Slot Insists He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that people question you.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this match so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
The manager lamented recurring failings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
