The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the business alongside Jerry Greenfield, revealed that he plans to independently develop the controversial flavor as part of an individual collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been barred from speaking out about.

Longstanding Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest development intensifies the ongoing conflict among the internationally recognized ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and its ice cream arm Magnum improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem for Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced via an Instagram video that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas for naming options and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

The watermelon has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, which match the colors in Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement plus Recent Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's refused to sell its products in territories under Israeli control, resulting in Unilever transferring the Israeli operation over to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

The new product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which was first created several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Management Shifts plus Upcoming Plans

The founder indicated how he will create other frozen dessert varieties that address concerns that the company was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development follows co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down from Ben & Jerry's recently, after decades with the organization, citing worries regarding how its independence had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can actualise the social mission, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he explained to journalists.
