Individual Formally Accused with Attempted Murder in Shooting of National Football League Athlete Kris Boyd
A suspect has been indicted with attempted murder in connection with the attack that targeted New York Jets NFL player Kris Boyd.
Accused Individual Named and Arrested
The individual charged is a 20-year-old Bronx resident, age 20. He was on Monday, charged with assault.
Circumstances of the Mid-November Shooting
The traumatic incident occurred in the early hours of 16 November, near a busy New York City restaurant. Police characterized the event as a dispute with a unknown individuals.
Boyd, age 29, was accompanied by teammates and a third companion in Midtown Manhattan when the argument began.
The situation turned into a fight, during which police allege Green shot Boyd two times in the abdomen.
Critical Injuries and Hospitalization
The bullet hit Boyd's pulmonary organ and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was transported to hospital in grave condition but was subsequently sent home.
Reports indicate he has since visited his teammates at a Jets practice facility.
Investigation and Apprehension in Buffalo
Surveillance video from the area allegedly captured Green fleeing and getting into a vehicle operated by another person.
Law enforcement arrested Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was allegedly staying at his partner's residence.
A law enforcement statement noted that "a suspect" had been apprehended.
When law enforcement surrounded the apartment complex, the suspect was seen "looking out the apartment window searching for an way out but retreated inside after seeing the team and a canine officer," the statement noted.
The stand-off ended shortly thereafter, when the man exited the apartment with his hands in the air.
The accused had "significantly changed his physical appearance probably to avoid detection," law enforcement commented.
Boyd's Professional Background
Prior to joining the Jets this season, Boyd had stints with the Houston Texans over several years in the NFL.
The cornerback had been on injured reserve for the Jets after suffering a injury to his shoulder during practice in August.
