How do you boost a stellar experienced squad who have claimed consecutive championships, featuring a double triumph boasting thirty wins from 32 games?

One Greater Manchester team has an non-professional vets team with nine ex- Premier League players in their active roster.

Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are based in southern Manchester and compete in the Cheshire Veterans Division Premier Tier.

Well-Known Figures and Global Players

Stephen Ireland began playing for the side in preseason this season through close friend and present team player Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland player then asked other ex-pros, who all play in a weekly nine-a-side game, to join in.

Former Senegal forward Niasse, who netted 12 scores in sixty-five Premier League games for the Toffees and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also had his first appearance against Collegiate OB - who are located in Liverpool and wear an Blue training kit as their strip.

"That's a bit unusual but then, I enjoy sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The movement is what I'm looking for. It's good fun."

'Surreal Feeling

Along with the forward's six goals on his first game, Ireland has netted 8 in 3 appearances for the side, while George Boyd hit five on his debut match and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a hat-trick in one match as a striker.

Wythenshawe are top of the Premier Division with 3 wins from 3 and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the wing for the opposition, came up against former Wigan full-back Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his nine-year-old boy who Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at two World Cups for Honduras, in addition to playing in over 200 Premier League games.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these ex-Premier League stars," remarked the player.

"I felt I was a little awestruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has 60-odd England appearances.

"We competed well for a good twenty minutes but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"Our group literally have not stopped talking about it - I was calling my mother and brother on the journey home.

"They were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
