Israelis have assembled across the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-initiated assault on October 7th, 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken over 67,000 people, based on figures from the territory's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as trustworthy by the UN and other global organizations.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also promised to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the return of all the captured, the elimination of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer create a danger to Israel".

Remembrance Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed official remembrance events until 16 October - after the end of the festive season - but ceremonies still occurred throughout the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who lost their lives in the Hamas attack was held in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired on Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was held throughout the country.

Ceasefire Talks in Egypt

Meanwhile, Israeli and Hamas representatives met in the North African coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the proposal.

A prominent Palestinian official familiar with the discussions said that an night meeting of mediated discussions began at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without concrete outcomes, due to disagreements over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not resume hostilities after the opening period of the deal.

He noted that the talks are "tough and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but noted that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the gaps between the both parties.

Key Issues in Negotiations

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • Post-war administration of the region

Citizen Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square previously, 29-year-old a woman - whose brother survived the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas militants - told: "No location appears as home any longer and until every captive return no one will have peace of mind."

"After we see everybody home again, we can relax anew. Then we can start to heal," she continued.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people congregated to demonstrate their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel states nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Activist a participant stated: "It's necessary do every compromise needed for the abducted to be released. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of Israeli citizens prefer the conflict to finish in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the gathering, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the severe Israeli shelling persisted.

In Gaza City, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of that day in the west side neighborhood, Rimal and Nasr districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the night arrives, the anxiety appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose young son was lost his life by an Israeli air strike earlier, explained.

"My family are afraid of the air strikes. All the night we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my youngest child who places his face on me all night."

"Every second we look at the reports to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be finalized and that the war will come back to us."

Health Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including a trio who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of Khan Younis said additional dead people had been delivered. An individual was died by Israeli forces while seeking assistance to the southern area, medics stated.

The territory's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
