Monarch to Share First-Hand Statement on Cancer in Television Broadcast

His Majesty has recorded a first-hand account about his battle with cancer, set to air as part of this year's annual cancer awareness drive, organised by a leading cancer charity and a television broadcaster.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the King would reflect on his "healing process" as a cancer patient, in a recorded address on this Friday at 8pm UK time.

The address, taped inside his London residence a fortnight ago, will stress the importance of cancer screening checks to increase the likelihood more people catch the disease at an early stage.

This will be a infrequent public commentary on the wellbeing of the King, who has been in a course of therapy since revealing his diagnosis in early last year. However, it is believed improbable the King will identify his type of cancer.

The Campaign's Primary Goal

The annual charity campaign each year collects money for clinical trials and patient care and prompts people to get health assessments to improve the probability of an early diagnosis.

The King's public discussion about his illness, and his experience as a patient, has been aimed to raise awareness and to get more people to get tested - and this will be advanced with this unusual personal contribution.

So far the King's primary strategy to his cancer has been to keep working, preserving a hectic timetable despite his frequent sessions of treatment, and he appears not to have sought to be defined by his illness.

Recently has seen the Sovereign, undertaking several foreign visits, such as visits to Italy and Canada, and welcoming the largest volume of foreign dignitaries to the UK for almost 40 years, which included the German president last week.

Friday's Broadcast Event

Friday evening's charity show on the network, presented by well-known figures like a team of famous hosts, will encourage people not to be scared of getting cancer checks.

The hosts have been had experience with cancer - Davina McCall said recently she had received treatment for a tumour, while Balding was treated for a thyroid condition over a decade ago. Host Hills has previously mentioned his father, who had stomach cancer and then later leukaemia.

The broadcast will reach out to the estimated nine million people in the UK who charities estimate are not up to date with public health checks, with an digital tool to let people determine if they are eligible for tests for several common cancers.

In an effort to clarify cancer checks and show the importance of timely identification there will be a direct feed from treatment centres at Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth hospitals in Cambridge.

"My aim is to remove the anxiety surrounding preventative tests and demonstrate the public that they are not alone in this," commented a presenter.

Understanding Health Checks

At present in the UK, there are three publicly available checks - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - available to certain age groups.

A emerging preventative initiative is also being gradually implemented for anyone at potential risk of being diagnosed with the illness, primarily aimed at people of a certain age, who are smokers or were former smokers.

Male patients may enquire about prostate screenings, but there is no national programme operational.

Charitable Impact

The charity campaign, which has collected over one hundred million pounds over the past decade, is supporting multiple clinical trials involving 13,000 patients.

His Majesty, in a message for dignitaries at a event for support groups in the spring, had spoken of acknowledging the "daunting and at times alarming experience" for those diagnosed and their families.

But he stated his personal journey of managing cancer had shown him that "periods of great challenge of illness can be brightened by the kindness of others," as he commended those who supported cancer patients.

Royal representatives has not made public the specific type of cancer the King has, or what treatment he has undergone. The King's cancer was detected after he had received a medical treatment.
