That Gory Cartoon Film Ending That Lingers Fans
Among every mature cartoon movies I have personally viewed, nothing has remained with me as much as the fear-filled finale of the graphically gory as well as highly provocative film from 2022 Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, this Spain-based filmmaker crafted a dark, bleak , often savage universe with a few small , desolate hints of hope.
While Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to expand the medium even more, the director stated that it was more an effort to express a universal, cross-cultural theme concerning “the common origin of each battle.”
That idea is communicated by means of a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , obviously modeled after a famous line of lovable figures.
Being raised in a society built around warmongering as well as the military-industrial complex, a lot of the bears are fixated on exterminating unicorns, thanks to a holy book which states the bears they were once kings of the forest, before the unicorns drove them out.
Others have not completely fallen for the propaganda, , choose to experiment with drugs or fornicate outdoors.
In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters show genitals and clear sex drives.
For one notably brutal, cynical bear, Bluey, the war against the unicorns turns into a route toward dominance — and especially to dominance over his gentler, kinder brother Tubby.
This bear is a bully and a seeming sociopath , and when horror dominates his group and claims his teammates sequentially, he takes more and more control on his own behalf, through ever more violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, these mythical beings are suffering their own terror, as a spreading, deadly beast in their forest.
“Initially, it feels like a comedy,” the director said. “But then it evolves into a more dramatic and sorrowful film. And by the end, it becomes a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars commences feeling a bit like one of the most quirky films from an iconic filmmaker, which find a naughty glee in permitting cartoon characters swear, shoot each other, or engage sexually.
Subsequently it turns into something more like a darker work by that same artist, including ever more explicit brutality , a noticeable relation to the actual horror of war.
By the end, it is a full-on Grand Guignol bloodbath.
The fear that makes this an ideal spooky-season watch starts well before than one might expect.
Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore fans of gore, for lovers of extreme cinema who wish to see something they haven’t ever viewed until now, and who can handle a plot that offers absolutely no punches.
See it in a dark room free from interruptions, and the conclusion will burrow into your mind and stay with you.
