The visionary game developer, who helped create the wildly popular video game Call of Duty, has tragically died in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the development studio he co-founded.

The celebrated industry figure lost his life when his vehicle was involved in a crash and caught fire on a highway in LA on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"This represents a heartbreaking loss, and our deepest sympathies go to Vince's loved ones, his family, and the countless individuals inspired by his creative vision," a representative from Electronic Arts said.
