The English Team to Launch Euro 2028 Quest at City’s Home Ground
England’s men’s team will embark on their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the the home of Manchester City, provided that they secure the anticipated entry for a championship staged throughout most of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
City’s stadium has not hosted an English men’s match since the spring of 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a friendly, but is expected to welcome the national team for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.
The team are set to play their final two group matches at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Kickoff and Protest
The event was inaugurated at an gathering in a London landmark on Wednesday evening. Key representatives from European football’s governing body and the organizing bodies were barracked as they arrived the location by about 50 protesters, who demanded Israel to be expelled from the sport because of the situation in Gaza.
Placards were held up with messages stating “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while demonstrators shouted: “Kick Israel out.”
Event Fixture List
The first match of Euro 2028 will be played at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on a Friday in June 2028, a match that will involve the Welsh team if they make it.
Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the championship match, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract family audiences and help reach a broader range of audiences.
Participating Countries
The Republic of Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin stadium and Scotland would play similarly at the national stadium of Scotland.
All four host countries’ teams will take part in the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.
Stadiums and Playoffs
The Birmingham venue and The North London arena finalize the nine host stadiums. All will hold at least one knockout match, with the last eight played at every host’s main arena.
The qualification draw will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a tournament location last year when it was revealed Casement Park could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
