The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
