Tottenham Boss Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Raise Tension on the Manager

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Vicario were told later "they can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.

However the main topic of discussion was the visitors' second score when the keeper gave away the ball well outside his box.

He ventured out to deal with a long ball and took the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments later when the ball came to the keeper once more, a number of Tottenham fans jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

A particular of those booing episodes truly irritated Frank.

"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be real Tottenham fans that act that way. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.

Former top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I know the role Vicario is playing. He is a great team player, he's a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning score."

'It is Part of Football, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Defended His Keeper Vicario Following the Match

Italian national team the keeper is in his 3rd season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to take the criticism.

"The second goal was a mistake of my own, I accept responsibility for it," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor way. That made an even bigger challenge to overcome."

He said being booed "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he continued. "We can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. Supporters have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on the team to stay more composed, to focus on ourselves. The team is missing in composure and calmness to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it's tough to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the next most distant top division score of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on Saturday.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was five moments following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the area for ages," he said.

"I was surprised not one of the back four went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my eyes sparked somewhat.

"Udogie slipped as well, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to make the right connection and get it towards goal. I felt a good sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Bad Spell, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager

Although the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home woes.

This was their tenth home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

The side still have home games against Frank's old side Brentford and champions Liverpool to come before the close of the season.

Just a single of those wins have occurred since the manager replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.

"When you're behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to go against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a unique narrative, this game we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."

Spurs have lost 4 consecutive at home capital clashes for the first time in the top division.

Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.

"He must take the stick," the pundit said. "He has accepted a high profile role at a huge football club with massive expectation. There is pressure and duty that comes with that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
